WMBD 2008 - WAS A GREAT SUCCESS! A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL PARTICIPANTS & EVENT ORGANISERS! Print

World Migratory Bird Day was celebrated for the third time on 10 – 11 May 2008. This year more than 136 events were registered in 59 countries around the world.

Many of you, whether organizers or participants have made a valuable contribution in raising awareness of the role that migratory birds play as ‘Ambassadors for Biodiversity’ as well as the threats they face along their flyways. We would like to thank you very much for your dedication and contributions, without which this event would not have been such a success!

A lot of personal commitment has been put into each of the very varied activities which took place around the world on this weekend. Some of the events were attended by decision-makers and local as well as national media coverage has been provided for quite a lot of activities (click here to see a first overview). This is a clear indication hat the conservation of migratory birds along the world’s flyways is a subject of considerable interest.

Finally we sincerely hope that your active enthusiasm will continue to flourish and that you will help spread the word and join the celebration of WMBD in 2009! Keep the flag flying so that we can combine our efforts in working towards the successful conservation of migratory birds.

If you would like to share your experiences with us and others around the world, we would be very interested in receiving reports and pictures of your events and to feature them on the WMBD website.

THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS on a very successful WMBD 2008!
