World Migratory Bird Day 2008

On the weekend of 10-11 May 2008 World Migratory Bird Day was celebrated with more than 136 events in 59 countries around the world. The central theme ‘Migratory Birds – Ambassadors for Biodiversity’ focused on the important role of birds as indicators of the status of biodiversity and link between ecosystems, continents and people. The activities helped to raise awareness of the threats migratory birds face during their annual migrations. Decision-makers took part in some the events, many of which were reported on in local and national media, highlighting the importance and global significance of bird migration.
