World Migratory Bird Day 2009 |

In 2009 World Migratory Bird Day was celebrated on 9-10 May with 130 registered events in over 50 countries worldwide. The activities were linked to the 2007 theme, which focused on ‘Barriers to migration’, and helped to raise awareness of the effects man-made obstacles, such as rotating wind turbines, power lines, tall buildings and reflecting glass windows, have on migratory birds. Furthermore a drawing competition was organised whereby more than 500 children sent in their artwork, depicting their observations and concerns regarding the barriers birds have to face during their migration.
