Workshop on sustainable hunting of migratory birds and obligations of Mediterranean Third Countries under the relevant multilateral environmental agreements

This is a workshop in the framework of the LIFE project on Sustainable hunting of migratory birds in the Mediterranean Third Countries (Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria, and Tunisia). The project is being implemented by BirdLife International and the BirdLife’s national partners in Tunisia (Les Amis des Oiseaux) and Lebanon (Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon). The AEWA Secretariat is partnering through co-funding to the workshop.

This purpose of this workshop is to:

· Review the membership and obligations of MTC countries to multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) relevant to the conservation of migratory birds and bird hunting, and to review and discuss a position paper on this issue.
· Manifest the issue of lead shot and replacement by non-toxic alternatives, and to review and discuss a position paper on this issue.

The participants will be also having the opportunity to try shooting with non-toxic alternatives of the lead shot in a specially organised field test.

It is expected that the workshop will be attended by more than 40 participants from governments, hunting organisations and conservation organisations from the region, representatives of relevant MEAs, as well as hunting and conservation organisations from Europe, and observers from some of the Gulf States.
