Wairarapa Moana Matariki Day

Seven schools will be combining to help plant out habitat zones for Biodiversity "observation stations".
The plantings will occur in the morning then the afternoon will be a celebration of the Maori Matariki Festival where the children will fly the kites they have made to celebrate the departure AND return of the Migratory Birds that feed on the lake mudflats during summer.

Coloring native birds

We will distribute educational materials and drawing birds (with birds native to our region)for children to color.

Penguins Forever

The children from these schools have each built their own nesting box for the little blue penguins to (hopefully)nest in when they come ashore to breed in early spring here.
The Aorangi trust has been trapping predators - stoats, wild cats, rats so that the area becomes a safer breeding ground.
On Monday the children will be placing their box along selected sections of the Cape Palliser coastline.
