Media Event

Local community groups or site support groups will be celebrating the day at different sites including South Nandi, Tana, Kinangop, Kereita, Kakamega, Mida creek, Dakatcha, Mt. Kenya, Yala, Dunga and Chereng'ani through various activities.
Some of these include birdwatching, video shows, clean-up exercises, talks and discussions, tree planting, raising awareness on bird identification, speeches from invited guests and entertainment.

The celebration activities will include purchasing and printing promotional t-shirts with the World Migratory Bird Day 2010 theme.

Moreover, there will be a morning bird walk to Mogobane Dam under the leadership of experienced guides who will instruct the children on aspects regarding birds.

The day will end with a show expressing Botswana's diverse culture performed by school children. Various schools will participate and perform choral singing, dancing, dramas depicting conservation issues and cooking traditional dishes.

Activities for the event include:

-A water birds poster contest for all environmental clubs in the Southwest, West and Northwest Regions;

-A migratory birds poster contest by all students from secondary school through University;

-An essay contest for all students from secondary school to University on “The Ecological Importance Of Birds To Our National Economy”;

-Two bird watching events in Fako Division with a visit to the mangrove forest in Tiko on 9 May 2010;

This year's celebration involves the launch of the book 'Invisible Connections' - a collection of fantastic images of migratory shorebirds along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, in particular the Yellow Sea.

The book is to be published at 12:30 on Wednesday 12th May, 2010 at the corner of Swanston and Collins Street, Melbourne.

Bird Education Society has been conducting various research, education and awareness activities to conserve Nepal's bird diversity.

We plan to visit major grassland sites for Bengal Florican and conduct a birdwatching programme in Sauraha, Chitwan, the headquarter of our organisation.

For this year's event, we will also invite the press.

Information and Fund Raising campaign for internationally coordinated activities against illegal hunting on the highly endangered Northern Bald Ibis (Geronticus eremita) in the Middle East (Jordan, Saudi Arabia) and Europe (Italy).

The conservation project Waldrappteam (www.waldrapp.eu) collaborates with the German Heinz Sielmann beneficence and the Zoo Institution.

Dr. K. Suresh, the President of the Osmania Medical College Doctors' Forum, will address the media on 8 May 2010 regarding World Migratory Bird Day and, further, announce a painting competition for children on migratory birds for children.

Baluchistan, a Pakistani province, offers great consitions in terms of topography and climate for migratory birds arriving from the freezing Central Asian Republic and Siberia.

The Houbara Bustard is one of the migratory birds to mention at this point.

The birds arrive to various parts of Pakistan including Nag Valley District Washuk Balochistan from the cold central Asian states during November and December every year. Their return usually starts from February until the end of March.

This year's WMBD event will be taking place on Rawal Lake in Islamabad.

The event involves birdwatching activities and a poster on Rawal Lake's birds.
Moreover, school children and the media environment journalists forum will be present.

We are also showing a documentary with the title "Waterfowl in Pakistan" made by the Pakistan Wetlands Programme WWF-P and educate on threatened birds species.
