Great River Birding Festival in Alma

World Migratory Bird Day events take place around the globe on the second weekend in May to raise awareness about migratory birds and habitat conservation. Alma, designated a Wisconsin Bird City, joins the celebration by hosting the Great River Birding Festival on Saturday, May 12, 2018, with family-friendly events throughout the day.

Festival activities include a live raptor program, held at Wings Over Alma at 1 p.m., presented by biologists and avian trainers Joe and Abbey Krumrie who’ll introduce you to a hawk, owl and peregrine falcon. Anyone interested in bird watching may join experienced birders and wildlife photographers Carol and Jerry Knabe on a morning field trip or use the spotting scopes from the observation deck at Wings Over Alma Nature and Art Center to view birds along the river. Shops along Main Street are each sponsoring a migratory bird during the month of May and will have information sheets about their bird available along with maps to local hiking trails. While at the shops, don’t forget to enter the drawing for $100 Bird Bucks. Danzinger Vineyards features live music all afternoon and the evening brings live bluegrass by the Seeger Boys at the Big River Theater on Main Street. Plan to spend the day enjoying the birds and all Alma has to offer. Complete event details can be found at www.explorealma.com or www.almawisconsin.com.
