Dominica Forestry Ministry WMBD 2019

More than 12 events were led by Jacqueline Andre and Machel Sulton in conjunction with Forestry staff to celebrate WMBD in Roseau. On October 12, 2019, World Migratory Bird Day was celebrated around the world. This year, Forestry, Wildlife and Parks Division did school outreach activities with the primary and secondary schools in the Roseau area, in keeping with the theme. Urging the students to all help to keep Dominica a cleaner, healthier, beautiful and bird-friendly country. The highlight of this year’s celebrations was a mask-making activity with four Primary Schools on Tuesday 15th October, 2019, and a Power Point Presentation followed by a Birdwatching Tour at the Botanical Gardens with the High Schools in the Roseau Area on Wednesday 16th October, 2019. Assistant Promotions/Research & Education Officer, Ameka Cognet, Acting Forester 2, Machal Sultan and Forest Officer Research and Monitoring and Environmental Education, Mr. Durand conducted the activities with the children at the various locations. Indeed it was a great celebration of World Migratory Bird Day 2019. The students will surely remember the activities and now have a better understanding of Dominica’s Birds, the migratory species that inhabit our island and region annually and how they can reduce their plastic use to help save the birds.
