World bird Migratory Day - 2019 Save Flamingoes

Save Flamingoes by protecting their habitat World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) is an annual awareness-raising campaign highlighting the need for the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats. It has a global outreach and is an effective tool to help raise global awareness of the threats faced by migratory birds, their ecological importance, and the need for international cooperation to conserve them. 80 hectares of Mangroves & Wetlands worth crores on prime location on Palm Beach Road were recently saved by High Court orders from being handed over to a private builder for residential and commercial development in name of golf course by CIDCO by changing the land use from No Development Zone to Regional Park Zone and Residential Zone .But threat is still there as builder Mistry Constructions has approached the Supreme Court. The area is rich in biodiversity, has reserved mangrove forests and is the habitat of many bird species including migratory birds like flamingos. Its biodiversity / marine life has been studied by Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) and TERI who have issued various reports recommending that the area’s biodiversity be preserved. While ecologically important as part of food chains, for humans flamingos particularly are valued for aesthetic purposes, being popular sights given their colorful appearance, large size, unique behavior (such as standing on one leg), and gregarious nature, sometimes flying or feeding in very large flocks. Let's celebrate this day 11th of May 2019 by visiting these two Wetlands , clicking pictures of these beautiful migratory birds & sharing on this page . https://www.facebook.com/events/1012023792324662/?ti=as
