WMBD: Birdwatching and Bird Photography

In conjunction with World Migratory Bird Day on 10th and 11th of May, MNS Miri has invited an uber bird photographer and birdwatching specialist Choo Tse Chien to Miri to lead bird watching trips, present a slideshow and talk as well as dispense tips and general advice on bird photography. We will also go birdwatching and go thru the basics of bird photography at Similajau National Park, Bintulu and Lambir Hills National Park, Miri.

Our intended audience are schoolgoing children, MNS members and the public in the Lutong and greater Miri area including MNS member schools in Bekenu/Subis districts. We hope to increase public awareness of birds in general and introduce birdwatching to the general community.

Our invited speaker, Choo Tse Chien will be concentrating on some of the rare, unique and colourful birds of Malaysia. There will also be ample opportunity to grill Tse Chien on the technical details of the specialised equipment required for bird photography. Schoolchildren and the public attending our talks and birdwatching outing during that week will have a chance to see a pro at work as well look thru the big lenses required for this specialised field of photography. Of course MNS Miri will also be arranging spare binoculars and scopes for those wanting to give birdwatching a try.

There will also be a guided birdwatching trip to Similajau on the morning of the 10th May and a nightwalk at Lambir Hills.
