World Migratory Bird Day in Romania

Every year the National Bird Day is celebrated in Romania on 1 April. Because it is an old tradition for our country we decided to include this event in the celebration of the World Migratory Bird Day. We organized several activities meant to attract people’s attention on birds and the need to protect them. The locations for these events were: the Sylvicultural and Agricultural Sciences Academy, Herastrau Park in Bucharest, Ciric Forest, Aroneanu-Dorobant-Ciric lakes in Iasi, Slatioara Old Forest, Dorohoi Mountain Lake, Calu Alb – Harnva chain of ponds, the Ethnographic Museum in Radauti, Tulcea County (Celic-Dere area, Telita forest), Danube-Tandarei floodable area, the Children’s Palace in Calarasi, Rosseti-Calarasi Primary School, several towns in the county of Calarasi (Modelu, Rosetti, Ciocanesti), Wood Industry Highschool in Pitesti, Arges County Museum, National College Caracal, parks and schools in Baia-Mare.
1673 children and adults took part in the activities and 145 species of birds were watched.
The events were transmitted by the “Romania Cultural” national radio station, two national publications, 6 local publications and 4 regional TV stations.
