CORRECT ANSWER:
Over 1850 bird species, or an estimated 19% of the 9865 known bird species, are considered to be migratory. According to BirdLife International , 11% of migratory birds are Globally Threatened or Near Threatened and 31 are classified as Critically Endangered.

Although there are many serious threats for migratory birds, the way humans use the land around them has by far the greatest effect. Unsustainable human land use, whether through deforestation, mining, urbanization, intensive agriculture or land reclamation directly removes or damages migratory bird habitats on a global scale. Learn more about how land use changes are affecting migratory birds on the WMBD 2011 website.
