Community Participation for Conserving Migratory Birds

An awareness event on "Community Participation for Conserving Migratory Birds", was organised in Kunjagrant Village near Asan Conservation Researve (Important Migratory Bird Hotspot), Dehradun, Uttarakhand. It was organized by the Himalayan Institute for Sustainable Enviornment & Research (HISER) Society in the collaboration with Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC), Kunja Grant and BMC, Matak Majari. Ms. Renu Gusain, Project Officer, HISER Society has discussed about the winter migration of thousands of birds (more than 100 species) in Asan Conservation Reserve which us in the vicinity of event village. She explained how the community can help in the conservation of our winter guest in our village enviorn.  Mr. Mahesh Chandra of HISER Society also explained about the ecosystem services of migratory birds during their stay in any nation's geographies. He further, explained the services of migratory vultures provided in term of scavenging the dead animal carcasses and preventing spreading of diseases in the Doon valley region during winter season. Mr. Mussaraf Hussain, Chairman, BMC Matak Majari has also addressed the villagers and request them to come together for conservation of our biological resources.
