USDA Centennial Celebration Farmer's Market

The USDA Farmers Market – operating since 1995 - has collaborated with the U.S. Pollinator Partnership for the last 9 of those years to sponsor the US Pollinator Festival in June with 17 to 20 exhibitors promoting pollinator conservation at the market. This successful collaboration led to a suggestion that USDA collaborate with the National Geographic Society to sponsor a similar celebration of the centennial of the North American Migratory Bird Treaty in 2018. September 28 is scheduled for this event, as the weather cools off and Fall migration is in full swing.

The USDA Farmers Market is ideally located for this purpose, as it is held at the intersection of Independence Av and 12th St SW, less than a half block from the National Mall and a very short walk from both Smithsonian Metro Exit/Entrances. Twelfth St SW is closed between Independence Avenue and Jefferson Drive every week during the Farmers Market to increase security for the vendors and market attendees. There is room for up to 20 organizations to exhibit at the Centennial along 12th St SW. Organizations are hereby invited to participate as exhibitors, and respondents will be assigned a space as responses are received to this invitation until the available spaces are filled or until September 24, 2018.

Exhibitors are offered 10 x 10’ canopy tents, with tables and chairs on 12th St, alongside the market. There is no charge for exhibit space. Exhibitors simply need to bring exhibit materials and publications. Exhibitors may not sell merchandise or memberships at the event, and exhibits need to be educational or informational in intent, with exhibitors targeting youth of all ages and adults with edutainment games and displays. This is the ideal opportunity to show the public the long and beneficial history between birds and farmers, ranchers and forest landowners through interactive displays and informational booths.
