Talking face to face with fishermen in Dayer-Nakhilu national park

The importance of healthy ecosystems as habitats for migratory birds and their reproduction on one hand, and the ever-growing danger of ghost nets and other plastic items left in the oceans and seas on the other hand, made the AvayeBoom Bird Conservation Society and Chakavak Birding Club to collaborate with department of environment in Bushehr. In this collaboration, in honor of world migratory bird day, members approached the fishermen in Dayer-Nakhilu national park, a hotspot for sea birds reproduction, and had talks with them regarding the dangers of ghost nets for birds. Therefore on 25,26 of Oct 2019 some members of these two NGOs went to the fishing harbour and talked to fishers of this National Park and the surrounding area. During these face to face talks, after an introduction of world migratory bird day and this year's theme, the NGO members informed fishermen about dangers of leaving fishing gears in the sea to birds and marine wildlife. They were also informed about the annual number of birds killed by ghost nets. Posters related to world migratory bird day and the wildlife entangled in ghost nets were put up in the fishing harbour for further raising the awareness.
