This World Migratory Bird Day, the EU celebrates its commitment to biodiversity conservation and birds protection, including bird-friendly cities. The implementation of the EU nature legislation and the support of the LIFE Programme will contribute to building greener, healthier communities where birds and people thrive together.
With the EU Birds Directive, we have safeguarded vital habitats across Europe, ensuring that migratory birds can thrive amidst urban expansion and changing landscapes.
Through the LIFE Programme, the EU continues to invest in pioneering projects that restore urban green spaces, rural areas, wetlands, and migratory corridors, ensuring our cities and their surroundings remain vibrant stopovers for migratory birds. With the new Nature Restoration Regulation, the EU is charting a bold course to restore and re-connect urban and rural spaces with nature, fostering healthier environments for both people and birds to thrive together.
