The Birding Cup of Moscow

The Birding Cup of Moscow is a birdwatching competition coordinated by NP "Birds and People" and is being implemented twice a year since 2010. This year 7 divisions of Moscow government-subordinated protected areas are involved in the organization of the Cup. The event is sponsored by the Moscow State Department of Natural Resources and Enviroment Protection.
40 birding teams are registered for participation in the competition - which means more than 200 participating people including school children and their parents, teachers, ornithologists, photographers and others. The teams should not exceed the number of 5 persons and may select one of the nominations "experts" or "beginners". The competition is based on taking pictures of different bird species. The team that has taken the most number of different bird species and identified them correctly, will become a winner.
The Cup will be carried out in two stages: The final stage will take place in the Moscow Botanical Garden of the Russian Academy of Sciences on 22 May and is devoted to World Migratory Bird Day.
However, WMBD celebrations will begin on 15 May and opened by a birdwatching excursion of the Cup participants to one of the global migratory waterbird stopover sites, 80 km south of Moscow to the so-called "Vinogradovskaya" flood plain. Here the Nerskaya River converge into the Moskva River.
All information on the events including the Cup Regulations, bird check-list, registration form, as well as the excursion announcement, is available on NP "Birds and People" website in Russian. The final Event report will be available in English, when the Cup results are published, and the event is completed.
