A guided morning bird walk to mark World Migratory Bird Day 2011

The UNEP/AEWA Secretariat, one of the organisers of World Migratory Bird Day, will go birdwatching on 15 May in the Kottenforst Forest. Staff members from other Bonn-based organisations are cordially invited, too.
Kottenforst is conveniently located adjacent to the city of Bonn. It is a popular area for walking and cycling, but is also a nature protected area part of the EU Natura 2000 network of sites. It is primarily woodland with some open areas (agricultural fields) on the edges - provide habitats to a number of migratory and resident species. In a single day you could see up to 20-30 species, mainly songbirds, woodpeckers, but also some birds of prey and other species: Chaffinch, Robin, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Coal Tit, Blue Tit, Wren, Nuthatch, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Black Woodpecker (if we are lucky!), Common Buzzard, etc.

It is recommended to take the following items with you:
binoculars, spotting scope (if available), comfortable walking shoes, hat and sun screen lotion for sun protection, water bottle, snack (in case you plan to stay in the afternoon).
