The Tunisian Bird Migration Awareness Raising Month

During the whole month of May AAO will organise awareness raising events on migratory birds, important migration and wintering sites and habitats in Tunisia, migratory waterbirds, conservation issues, etc.

The events will target the wider public as well as specific groups such as journalists, government institutions and representatives involved in migratory bird conservation, children, teachers, youth club leaders, members of AAO, etc.:

Friday 09/05 : Press meeting and distribution of a WMBD 2008 press pack in Ariana

Saturday 10/05: Launch of the AAO 'Bird Migration in Tunisia' web page

Sunday 11/05: Site event at Sidi Ali El Mekki (Ghar El Melah, North Tunisia) migration site:
- Walking and bird watching from Ghar El Melah beach to Sidi Ali El Mekki Sanctuary
- Bird and nature discovery rally for children
- Fun contest 'Migratory birds, habitats and changes'
- Presenting bird migration to a wider public
- Distribution of awareness raising materials

Thursday 22/05 (International Day for Biological Diversity): Official launch of the 'Mid-winter Waterbird Census 2008 in Tunisia - Report' in Ariana: - Reception - Presentation of the results of the Waterbird Census 2008 - Distribution of the electronic version of the report and launch on the 'Bird Migration in Tunisia' web page, - Press meeting and distribution of the Waterbird Census 2008 press pack.

Saturday 24/05: Awareness raising event for children focusing on an emblematic migratory bird - the White Stork at the Media Library in Ariana: - Slideshow and discussion 'Welcome dear Haj Kacem! Where did you spend the wintertime?' - Migration Game

Saturday 31/05: Launch of the poster-brochure 'Tunisia - a migration crossroads. Bird migration : a shared responsibility' - Distribution of the poster-brochures to AAO's regional branches and schools - Press communication - Launch of the poster on the 'Bird Migration in Tunisia' web page
