World Migratory Bird Day Celebration

Bird migration crosses international boundaries requiring inter-governmental cooperation and conservation strategies. Equally effective strategy is raising awareness at the grass-root  level especially in communities located around   sites utilized by migration pathways. Olango Island Wildlife Sanctuary in Cebu is the Philippines' first Ramsar Site as a wetland of internation importance serving the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. Today, information and education campaign was done to increase community awareness and appreciation on the importance of migratory birds. These activities included lectures, birdwatching tours and coastal clean-up spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and participated by the city government representatives, local communities and peoples organization. The participants also enjoyed as Dowee the dowitcher mascot took the stage.
