Capital City Bird Sanctuary Open House Celebrating World Migratory Bird Day

Please join Michigan Audubon from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 12 for a spring open house as we celebrate World Migratory Bird Day at Capital City Bird Sanctuary, featuring a variety of nature walks and family-friendly activities. The theme for this year’s World Migratory Bird Day celebrates 2018 as the Year of the Bird and the actions you can take to help birds, 365 days of the year.

Capital City Bird Sanctuary is an excellent stopover site for many migratory birds that pass through our region during the spring and fall. Many other species utilize the 65 acres of forest, meadow, and riverside habitats protected by this public nature sanctuary for nesting and foraging activities.

Nearly 2 miles of unpaved trails offer visitors a chance to get close to nature and observe birds, flowers, and wildlife. This celebration will include activities for adults and children to learn about birds, plants, and other creatures that can be found in your own backyard. The event will also feature information about how you can take action to help birds, create native habitat, and volunteer with Michigan Audubon. The event will wrap-up with a live birds of prey presentation with Wildside Rehabilitation Center. Burke Lake Banding Station will also be on hand with engaging activities for bird lovers of all ages.

Please wear sturdy walking shoes or waterproof boots for unpaved, grassy or muddy trails. Bring binoculars if you have them. We hope to see you there!
