Detroit Lakes Festival of Birds

How long would it take for you to see 6000 birds? Noah Strycker did it in 2015 and will share his funny and inspiring experiences Sat, May 19 at the Detroit Lakes Festival of Birds. Do you enjoy the sight of Trumpeter Swans in flight? Bald Eagles, Peregrine Falcons and bluebirds? Then you'll want to hear on Fri, May 18 the many stories of working in the Dept of Natural Resources for 45 years from Carrol Henderson, who contributed much to saving these species. The festival kicks off Wed, May 16 with the show For the Birds at the Historic Holmes Theatre. Join the Thurs, May 17 social at Hub 41 and birding by pontoon. Detroit Lakes is located in a unique conversion zone of tallgrass prairie, hardwood/conifer forests and peppered with wetlands that are home to more than 275 species of birds. Get out in the field Friday and Saturday morning with experienced birding leaders/naturalist looking for Golden-winged Warbler, Chestnut-collared Longspur, Greater Prairie Chicken, LeConte's Sparrow, American Bittern, Bobolink, American Woodcock, Black-backed Woodpecker and more!
