2010 World Migratory Bird Day

The Brisbane City Council in Australia is celebrating the '2010 World Migratory Bird Day' with a free community music festival on 9 May 2010.

This festival aims to raise awareness on protecting migratory birds and their habitat.

Up to 40,000 migratory birds visit Brisbane's RAMSAR listed Moreton Bay every year. Some of these birds fly up to 13,000km one way from Siberia and use the East Asian-Australasian Flyway that passes through China, Japan and south east Asia. They stay in Brisbane during the southern hemisphere warmer months (September - March) before making the long journey back north when autumn arrives.

The 2010 World Migratory Bird Day festival includes musical performers, food and information stalls.

Everyone is welcome - we look forward to seeing you there!!
