Since 2000, Bird Conservation Society of Thailand (BCST), Birdlife international and Kok Kham Bird Club have cooperated to set up this festival to generate public awareness in Thailand and Asia to protect migratory shorebirds and their habitat. The most important bird in this area is the Spoon-billed Sandpiper (less than 400 birds in the world) and other migratory shorebirds. This festival is in the Important Bird Area (IBA) of Thailand.
