As a Contracting Party to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wildlife called Bonn Convention (CMS) and the Agreement on the Conservation of Migratory Water Birds of African-Eurasian since 1 January 2007, ASITY Madagascar will celebrate World Migratory Bird Day in accordance with the theme chosen for this year: "Stop poaching and illegal trade."
Madagascar host over 70 species of migratory birds, largely marine and coastal birds. These species are essential and irreplaceable component of natural ecosystems. They promote the national economy through the development of ecotourism, particularly the activities of "Bird watching".
This celebration is for ASITY Madagascar, with the participation of specialized agencies in ornithology namely Durrell and the Peregrine Fund, an opportunity to draw particular Malagasy citizens’ attention on ecological and human problems that threaten these species, encourage them to further change their attitude and behavior. Various activities will be planned to honor this event during the day of 10 May 2016, namely:
- - Speech by the Minister of Environment, Ecology and Forestry in French and Malagasy on TV/radio
- Conference : This conference will be devoted to training and awareness among high school and university students on the topics: Preserving and fight against bird collusion by Asity Madagascar and Migratory birds (Asity Madagascar) with case studies of the project Falco concolor by The Peregrine Fund
- Various activities which are in the forms of competition , price distribution, etc. for middle school .
- Exhibition stands will be provided for all public during the event : showing information/ action on Migratory birds. organization will displaying their work on Migratory birds and showing photo of migratory
- Films
- Photos competition of Migratory bird species for Asity Members
Note : Illegal trading and hunting are not really the serious threats for migratory birds but habitats destructions is important one. So the objectives of this event is information and sensitization that Madagascar is one of the migratory birds host. Conference is talking about existing migratory bird project in Mada.
