Birdapalooza at Lake Apopka

The Lake Apopka Wildlife Festival & Birdapalooza is now a weekend event, perfect for birders visiting Florida or locals wanting to learn more from well-known, knowledgeable birding guides. You can add to your “life list” while exploring a unique birding area. The Festival is only 35–45 minutes from Orlando attractions.

On Friday, January 19th, and Sunday, January 21nd, participate in field trips on the 20,000-acre Lake Apopka North Shore property and other nearby sites, sponsored by the Orange Audubon Society. Trips will search for as many of the 360+ species documented as possible, plus recently sighted rarities. The timing is perfect to see a multitude of both overwintering and resident species.

Enjoy keynote speakers on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, with dinners on Friday and Saturday. Our best-known speaker is Greg Miller, one of the country’s top birders who came in second in The Big Year birding competition (played by Jack Black in the 2011 movie The Big Year).

Visit the OAS event website to see field trip leader and location details, as well as possible sightings for each trip. Lodging information is also available. The required registration fees for field trips and keynotes will be donations toward Orange Audubon Society’s nature and environmental education center fund. With any questions, please call 407-637-2525.
