Sapelo Island Birding Adventure

Travel by ferry to Sapelo Island along Georgia’s scenic coast; enjoy birding the beaches, marshes, fields, and forests of this limited-access barrier island with expert birders. Stay overnight at the historic Reynolds Mansion. Sapelo Island is an incredible place to see a diversity of birds. The isolated beaches are excellent for viewing a variety of shorebirds, gulls, and terns. Sapelo is the only place in the United States outside of Texas to see the Plain Chachalaca, which was introduced to the island in the 1920s. You will also see nesting Wood Storks, Bald Eagles, White Pelicans, and possibly Roseate Spoonbills. Painted Buntings are fairly common and can be found in scrubs areas all over the island. $349 per person; an additional $299 for the optional one-day extension. The cost includes registration, overnight accommodations at the Mansion, meals and transportation on the island. The ferry fee ($15 per person roundtrip, cash or check only) is not included in registration. Registration is limited to 24 participants with an option to stay a second night and strike out on your own or explore the island by kayak with expert guides.
