WMBD at Lincoln City Cultural Center

The return of many of the coast’s feathered friends will be cause for celebration this Sunday, May 13, as the Lincoln City Cultural Center hosts the World Migratory Bird Day Festival.

Live demonstrations, informative presentations, hands-on activities and games for kids will all be on offer at the event, organized by the Audubon Society of Lincoln City in partnership with US Fish and Wildlife, the National Forest Service, Lincoln City Parks and Recreation, and Environment for the Americas.

Doors open at 10 am with raffle tickets for door prizes and gifts for the first 50 mothers in honor of Mother’s Day. At 10:30 am, Alina Blankenship of Perch Wildlife Education will present an educational demonstration with live owls, hawks and falcons. The afternoon will include a presentation on local habitat for adults and crafts for kids.

Throughout the day, booths will offer information and handouts on local reserved habitats, coloring and games for kids. Outside, in concert with the local farmers market, kids and adults can enjoy face painting and demonstrations on choosing and using binoculars and birding guide books. Early risers can also enjoy a morning guided bird walk along D River.

The festival will run from 10 am to 3 pm at 540 NE Hwy. 101.
