“Migrasyon at Polusyon (English: Migration and Pollution): An Outdoor Learning Event on Bird Migration and Plastic Pollution”

Aside from bird watching, monitoring, and a field trip in the wetland where migratory birds are observed, the event will include: a) clean up drive for birds and sanitation; b) exhibit on bird migration in the community; and c) the conduct of “Dalaw Turo” (Dalaw – to visit; Turo – to teach), alternative approach on biodiversity conservation by using street theatre, environmental games, and lectures.

The event’s purpose and objectives are:

1) provide communication, education and public awareness on migratory bird conservation;

2) engage the community to become the government’s recruit for the conservation of migratory birds and to protect them from the threats of plastic pollution; and

3) solicit support from different sectors to build alliances and to enhance advocacy for migratory bird conservation and protection.

It is expected that the community will be able to take action against plastic pollution affecting migratory birds and the flyway routes. Local government units are also expected to pass a local ordinance or policy on migratory bird conservation. An estimated one hundred (100) or more participants will be invited from the Sangguniang Kabataan (Youth Council) of the municipality of Batan; youth organizations engaging in bird conservation and biodiversity; people’s organizations in the community, media practitioners, and schools.
