WMBD 2020 Bird Watching Field Trips

Salem Ornithological Foundation has planned to conduct bird watching field trips in the Shevaroy hills of the Eastern Ghats and the wetlands present in the foothills on 10th and 11th of October 2020. The trip will be led by one our lead birders and educators, Ms Angeline Mano. All necessary COVID-19 precautions issued by the Government of Tamil Nadu will be strictly followed. Since WMBD also coincides with World Mental Health Day, it is a great opportunity to explain the benefits of birds and how nature and birds can improve our mental health and keep us happy. On Sunday, a webinar is also organized as a part the activity. Apart from this Day, we also consistently do a lot of outreach and education programs and monitor waterbird and migratory shorebird populations in the Stanley Reservoir, Salem. All our observations are entered in eBird.

Prior to the event, Young Birders of Salem celebrated the arrival of two migratory bird species, the Common Sandpiper and the Grey Wagtail, by affixing posters in public places to explain the importance of migratory birds. Both these species were the first arrivals to Salem district for this migratory season.
