Arcadia EcoHome Participation in WMBD 2022

Starting Friday May 13 and ending Saturday May 14, we as birders at California Institute of Environmental Design & Management (CIEDM) will engage birwatching and ecological conservation at Arcadia EcoHome, a verified Ocean Friendly Garden and a certified Wildlife & Pollinator Habitat, in Arcadia, California. The EcoHome’s ground abuts the Camino Grove School and Camino Grove Park, and is just one block from the Santa Anita Wash, a green waterway trail with an open channel draining stormwater from the nearby Angeles National Forest in the San Gabriel Mountain to the downstream Rio Hondo and San Gabriel Rivers, all part of the Pacific Flyway for migratory birds. On the EcoHome’s half-an-acre lot, the building incorporates bird-friendly features to mitigate light pollution and reduce bird collisions, and the rest of the ground houses a bio-diversified homegrown pocket forest made of 500+ countable trees, shrubs, vines & pot plants and numerous uncountable perennials & groundcovers, all planted densely in the yards.  With our gardeners’ help, the conservation tasks involve yard works to check exterior lights, maintain bird friendly features, and rewild the forest understories & floors.  In addition to the physical works, we’ll share and spread our works via social networking to raise public awareness of the significance of WMBD 2022.
