Come to Arrábida and celebrate the World Migratory Bird Day–Oct. 8

On Saturday, October 8, 2022, from 10 am to noon, come to Parque Ambiental do Alambre (Alambre Environmental Park), in Arrábida Nature Park, to celebrate the World Migratory Bird Day. Come and meet a fantastic group of birds that travel thousands of kilometres, some of which spend part of their lives in Portugal. Discover a little more about the Arrábida Nature Park, learn about the work of ICNF, I.P., on the protection of birds and, more specifically, of CEMPA – Centro de Estudos de Migrações e Proteção de Aves  (Center for the Study of Migration and Protection of Birds) and the Portuguese National Birdringing Central. Watch a bird ringing session and learn about the process, aims and methodologies used to better understand migration routes, stopping areas and places to protect.

Did you know that migratory birds make incredible journeys and were and continue to be a source of inspiration and even some mystery? Bird migrations ignore the borders between countries and continents, so come and discover some of the migratory birds that are passing through Arrábida!

Meeting: entrance to the Alambre Environmental Park (GPS: 38.489153,-9.029326)
For whom: all.
Attention: part of the program will be in a room. Bring comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for the weather conditions. If you have one, bring binoculars and a camera.

World Migratory Bird Day is celebrated twice a year: on the second Saturdays of May and October. In 2022, the theme is Dark Nights, Safe Migrations! Indeed, light pollution is a negative factor in the migration and birds can get lost or deviate from their normal migration routes.

Organization: ICNF – Instituto da Conservação da Natureza e das Florestas, I.P, with the support of ACM/YMCA – Associação Cristã da Mocidade.

Come and celebrate World Migratory Bird Day and marvel at some of these small migratory birds! We count on you!
