Moonwatching and Nocturnal Migration

Join me on the ballfield of Houston Playground to experience the spectacle of nocturnal migration and celebrate World Migratory Bird Day! We will train our optics on the full Hunter’s Moon, watching for birds to fly in front of it. Please bring a spotting scope if you have one (I will also have one to share). On good migration nights I have seen a bird cross the moon roughly every 30 seconds! Perhaps we'll even hear some owls hooting away while we're out there. In addition to birds, we should also have good conditions to admire the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn.
This event is supported by DVOC. We will cancel in the event of rain.
Free and open to all!
