Each year Bighorn Audubon Society participates in the World Migratory Bird Day Spring Bird Count, created in 1993 at the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. The count is similar to Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count but is conducted on one day each year:  the second Saturday in May in the U.S. and Canada, and in October in Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean.

International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) celebrates one of the most important and spectacular events in the Americas: bird migration. Since 1993, IMBD has fostered bird conservation and education, and has introduced countless youths and adults to migratory birds. This event serves as a call to action to preserve birds and their habitats. Contact the park for a detailed event schedule.

The Guam National Wildlife Refuge at Ritidian will be hosting several events on Saturday, June 2, 2018, in celebration of World Migratory Bird Day. 

Spend the day birding in Minnesota’s largest state park. Visit between 8 and 11:30 a.m. to participate in an interactive bird banding session. Follow the signs along the road to the wildlife pond by the park office and park along the road. Bring binoculars to help spot birds along the trails in the afternoon. Then meet inside the St. Croix Lodge to see a live bird program by the Audubon Center of the North Woods from 5 to 6 p.m. (1-320-384-6591, mndnr.gov).​

Bring the whole family to celebrate World Migratory Day at the Highlands Center! Test your wits at Raven Games, learn about local birds as you complete your own Migration, and learn how to draw birds with local artist Diane Iverson. Special presentations from Prescott National Forest (8) and Audubon Arizona (10:30). $5 for adults; $2 for kids ages 5-12; free for members

The Snake River Aubudon Society and the Zoo discuss why birds migrate and its importance. There are bird-related crafts and activities. Activities are free with paid zoo admission. Inspired by the flowing waters of the Agua Fria River that runs through their property, owners Garry and Denise Rogers chose to call their home Coldwater Farm. Nestled in the heart of Humboldt, the lushness of the property allows you to feel as if you have entered the Secret Garden. Noticing an abundance of bird species, Garry began keeping a bird list that is now up to 127 species.
