The Battle of Towers is the epical name for a very important event organized by BirdLife Finland that has taken place every year in May since 2000. The Battle of Towers will be fought on 7 May and this year the event will also be part of the World Migratory Bird Day.

World Migratory Bird Day Celebrated in Iraq

On Tuesday, 10 May, the Chibayish branch of Nature Iraq (BirdLife Partner in Iraq) is organizing a suite of activities to celebrate this year’s World Migratory Bird Day and raise awareness on the 2016 theme “Stop illegal killing, taking and trade of migratory birds”. This event is to take place both in schools and in the National Park of Central Marshes.

AEWA Grant to Support WMBD 2016 Celebrations in Africa

The World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD)  campaign is recognized and promoted as an effective means for increasing understanding of and raising awareness on the need for conserving migratory birds, including in the African region. The AEWA Plan of Action for Africa therefore promotes the annual celebration of WMBD in each AEWA African Contracting Party through the provision of seed-funding to support the organization of national events, as well through the organization of a major sub-regional WMBD event each year.

World Migratory Bird Day 2016 – Official Trailer – Competition Winner Announced

Bonn,  27 April 2016 – the jury set up to decide the winner of this year’s WMBD video competition has met and reached its verdict choosing the entry submitted by N F Lart of Indonesia.  This video will now be used as the official trailer for this year’s campaign which is being conducted under the slogan “…and when the skies fall silent? Stop the illegal killing, taking and trade!”

Intercontinental Bird Migration in the spotlight in Bonn

Bonn, 25 April 2016 – On Saturday, 23 April, the local branch of the nature NGO, NABU (BirdLife Partner in Germany) organized a birding tour in English and German guided by the local bird expert, Mr. Frank Wissing: a 1.5km excursion in the Rheinaue to gain more knowledge on migratory birds, their journey and to watch them in one of their stop-over sites. The bird walk was registered on the World Migratory Bird Day website as one of this year’s events (http://www.worldmigratorybirdday.org/).

Since World Migratory Bird Day began in 2006, events have been held in 130 countries and this year we hope to reach even more people and organizations to connect and work together towards conserving migratory birds and their habitats worldwide.
