Hello everybody.
We are writing from Urdaibai, a Biosphere Reserve which is situated in Bizkaia, Basque Country.
Urdaibai Bird Center is a great living museum of the nature, open to the public for enjoying with the world of birds and their migrations. We want to inform you about our activities due to the World Migratory Bird Day.
In order to celebrate the Wolrd Migratory Bird Day Urdaibai Bird Center has organised a variety of different activities:
- Sunday 10th May the center is going to have an opendoor day, and, for those who come to visit the entrance will be free.
- This Spring, starting from the 9th of May, Urdaibai Bird Center has organised a basic course for the identification of birds in the center and it´s surroundings.
- We are going to do the presentation of a new web page where people will interact and share the observations of birds (www.ornitho.eus). This is an internet portal dedicated to compile and exchange information of nature in the Basque Country.
- The theme of this year “Energy- make it bird-friendly” is conected with the projects we are carrying out with the White Stork and the Osprey in Urdaibai. Taking into account that these two species have tendency to rest in perching places such as branches, sticks and power lines, here in Urdaibai, electrical companies have changed the power lines and become safer for birds. Our intention, as a member of "Migratory Birds for People", amongs other things, is to protect all the risky places and become safer the bird flyway.
