We are celebrating World Migratory Bird Day and raising awareness about global conservation of migratory shorebirds and the significance of the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary a s akey EAAF site through running a special movie night that's all about birds!
We will be showing a great short film made locally by BirdLife Australia that will provide insight in to the importance of the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary from a global perspective.
The feature film of the night is the family-friendly movie The Big Year, starring Owen Wilson, Jack Black and Steve Martin. The Big Year is a sophisticated comedy about three friendly rivals who, tired of being ruled by obligations and responsibilities, dedicate a year of their lives to following their dreams. Their big year takes them on a cross-country journey of wild and life-changing adventures, all focused on spotting as many birds they can in a year.
While many migratory shorebirds have departed the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary shores and have started making their annual journey north for breeding those of us left are working hard at raising awareness about these amazing migratory shorebirds and the importance of protecting their habitat. This movie night is our contribution towards raising awareness about our migratory shorebirds and the current threats to their survival.
All funds raised through the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary movie night will go towards children’s Nature Play education workshops planned to run in the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary throughout September and October this year.
This event is a partnership between the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary, Birds SA, BirdLife Australia, Nature Play and the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Natural Resource Management Board.
