Association pour la Conservation de la Nature au Rwanda (ACNR), a Birdlife International partnership as a partner in Rwanda. In collaboration with University of Rwanda through Rwanda University Club for Conservation of Biodiversity (RUCCB), Government of Rwanda presented by Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA), Birding tour agencies, communities depending on the forest and the wetland, district authority representative and media exhibitors. ACNR (event leader) is organizing the celebration of 2016 World Migratory Birds Day (WMBD) through awareness-raising campaign highlighting the need for the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats with “Stop the Illegal Killing, Taking and Trade of Migratory Birds” as the theme of year. The event will take place at Arboretum forest and Rwasave wetland in Huye district, Southern province of Rwanda.
Arboretum is planted forest, aged of 82 years located on Ruhande hill and it provide habitat to wild animals including bird species and Rwasave is a wetland surrounding the arboretum forest. Some communities’ members ignore the bird migration and the importance of conservation in general and they get involved in bird illegal killing, taking and trade activities harming bird and disturbing their habitat.
The event will be based on birdwatching at Arboretum forest and Rwasave wetland , bird migration presentation at University of Rwanda College of Science and Technology with all participants and media exhibitions.The bird watching and migratory bird exhibitions will increase the awareness on migratory bird species and habitat conservation among participants. The event summary and photo will be shared with WMBD Campaign team after the exhibition. And the official event report will be sent to BirdLife International within 20th May. In addition, the society will benefit from media exhibitions and event publication on ACNR website.
