Festival for the Birds

As part of the week long festivities celebrating the patron saint of Catacamas, the UNAG and the American Bird Conservancy are organizing a Festival for the Birds in Catacamas.  The festival will celebrate the migratory and endemic birds of the region.  During the week workshops will be held for students studying bird conservation to help them in better monitoring and conservation of migratory and endemic species the area hosts.  Field trips will also be conducted to the Sierra de Agalta National Park and to private properties where owners have expressed theri willingness to farm their land in ways that enhance bird conservation.  On Saturday the 13 an all day festival open to the general public will occur in the Central Plaza and Park.  There will be games for children, fund and educational activities for young and old, an event where local artists will promote conservation through culture and art, coffee tastings and activities that educate the public on the wonders of nature, especially birds, that abound in their region and how they can help protect and preserve them.
