WMBD Weston Bend State Park

Wings Over Weston will be held at Weston Bend State Park’s Bee Creek Shelter from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 5. The festival is free to the public.

She said visitors at the festival can watch state-licensed ornithologists that collect songbirds in nets and place a band on the leg of the birds. The songbirds can then be viewed by attendees before being released back into the wild. The band can be used by biologists to track the migration of birds.

“Children that attend can watch the release of wild birds after they are band,” Kline said. “It is great to see the awe in the face of children when they see the birds up-close. That brings a lot of joy to us because that’s what this is all about. We want to introduce wild birds to children so that they will want to go outside and experience nature and maybe even pick up birding as a hobby. It’s important to get children into the outdoors.”
