Yakutat Tern Festival

The festival is a collaborative and community-based event.  The festival planning committee includes representatives from the Yakutat Chamber of Commerce, U.S. Forest Service, Alaska Department of Fish and Game, National Park Service, Yakutat City and Borough, and Yakutat Tlingit Tribe, in addition to volunteer committee members.  The Yakutat School District hosts most of the festival events and assists in fundraising efforts.  Evening events are held at the Alaska Native Brotherhood/Sisterhood Hall.  Several local fundraising groups offer meals during the festival, benefitting festival organizers, participants, and the fundraising groups. Numerous organizations also sponsor the festival, including local businesses which donate services such as lodging, rental vehicles, and food.  Numerous individuals donate their time to help with festival activities including driving for field trips and organizing and assisting with other festival events.
