World Migratory Bird Day 2020 in Indonesia with HIMPUS

World Migratory Bird Day 2020 in Indonesia this year will be celebrated with a series of events starting from  1 October 2020. This year's celebration is a bit different from a few years ago because in Indonesia the COVID-19 prevention will continue until the end of May. But the efforts of the Poultry Lovers Student Association (HIMPUS) of the Veterinary Faculty of Syiah Kuala University did not want the closedown to become an obstacle to continuing to make people aware of the habitat and species of migratory birds. Activities which will be held by HIMPUS are namely:

1. Webinar World Migratory Bird Day 2020 with the Theme "Birds Connect Our World”

World Migratory Bird Day 2020 in Indonesia will continue but for the celebration, in May there will be a public discussion through a live streaming application with the topic "Birds Connect Our World" which later this discussion forum will be announced on HIMPUS social media accounts and assisted also by the committee team so that many people to join and listen to the discussion. This step we feel very effectively carried out even when there is an outbreak of pandemic COVID-19 in Indonesia. To attract the interest of participants in an online discussion we offer an attractive giveaway to form t-shirts and other merchandise.

1. World Bird Migration Day Painting Competition (1-20 October 2020)

This competition was held on 1 - 20 October 2020 with the aim of educating children in Indonesia in the world of painted birds and fostering a love for the environment from an early age. In addition, this activity needs to fill spare time at the homes of Indonesian children, because learning activities were carried out respectively during the current Covid-19 pandemic.

This competition will be filled with 3 age categories, namely: category A for children aged 5-10 years, Category B for children aged 11-15 years and Category C for teenagers 16-20 years. This painting competition is conducted online by sending their work to the committee to assess each category. The winners from each category will receive marchendise prizes and award pajamas which will be sent to each winner's address.

The target participants in the painting competition with the theme World Migration Bird Day are all students in Indonesia from elementary school, junior high school, high school and some students.

3. A Short Video about Migratory Birds

This short video will be shared on Facebook, YouTube and other social media. This short video is a form of distance socialization and education for people who were unable to join in some of the previous activities.

From the activities that we have planned, we hope that in the future the participants who will attend the series of activities can become a voluntary movement to protect migratory birds and their habitats so that they can be protected from ecosystem problems and conservation. The other purpose of our planned activities are:

1. The participants gained knowledge and experience of migratory bird conservation.

2. Provide information about migratory bird species to the public.

3. Instilling a sense of environmental love in young children.

4. Educate endangered migratory bird species.

5. Discuss problems facing the world today in efforts to conserve habitat and migratory birds.

6. Provide training to foster a sense of caring for the environment.

7. Provide training on how to identify bird species and use birdwatching equipment.

8. Campaigning to protect the world's migratory birds as a means of channeling the country.

9. Make people aware of the importance of migratory birds.
