World Migratory Bird Day Celebration

Join in the celebration of World Migratory Bird Day and the second annual Victoria Bird Week with various activities and events starting Sunday, May 8, until Saturday, May 14, 2022. Beginning May 8, Rocky Point Bird Observatory (RPBO) will celebrate Victoria Bird Week with bird-related  activities organized by RPBO and Vancouver Island partner organizations.  The week wraps up with a celebration of internationally-recognized World Migratory Bird Day.

RPBO invites the community to celebrate with us during this week-long event designed to bring awareness of bird conservation, while at the same time bringing people closer to nature and celebrating the birds you may discover there. Everyone is invited to participate in any or all the Victoria Bird Week events offered.

"The celebrations begin on May 8 with a series of bird-related activities offered in-person and online.  The week culminates on May 14th with a very special event at Beaver Lake in celebration World Migratory Bird Day and a Global "Big Day" take place. Global Big Day is an annual celebration of the birds around you. No matter where you are, join in virtually on May 14, help celebrate World Migratory Bird Day, and share the birds you find with eBird. Participants are encouraged to submit bird observations and support conservation worldwide," says Julie Howe, RPBO's Education and Outreach Coordinator. "Victoria Bird Week celebrations have something for everyone as various community partners come together to celebrate the wonder of birds in our region."
