Migratory Bird Day Celebration

The day was celebrated by the Department of Environmental Science in Collaboration with the Bird Conservation Society, Ajmer. Vice Chancellor of M.D.S. University, Prof. Roop Singh Bareth chaired the inaugural session. Mediante la planificación del mes de Mayo con el equipo de Guardaparques y la Responsable de Área Ing. Rosario Tene se planifico realizar un desfile por el Día Mundial de las Aves Migratorias, en la comunidad Hoja Blanca Chachi “CHABAMBI” con estudiantes de la escuela “FIBA JAKI”, Guardería Risitas de Chontaduro, representantes de la Reserva Canande de la Fundación “JOCOTOCO” y comunidad en general.

Migratory birds from the Neretva Delta

Ornithological collection in Metkovic, Croatia Our students have visited the ornithological collection in Metkovic, our hometown, which is by size among the largest collections of its kind in Europe and studied the migratory birds of our region, some of which, unfortunately, have become extinct. The collection contains more than 340 exhibits which are examples of 218 bird species, out of 310 species so far recorded in the Neretva region, Croatia.

Making a wetland centre. Training seminar for educational departments of nature protected areas of NW Russia

The seminar is aimed to motivate educational departments of nature protected areas for making a wetland visitor center. The seminar was organised with the support of the Matra programme of Embassy of Netherlands and in collaboration with Wetlands International Russia. Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust also took part in the seminar - the head of Wetland Link International, Chris Rostron made some presentations about the UK experience in making wetland centers.

Tree planting and bird watching at Sakumo Ramsar Site

For the first time, farmers, mostly peasants, will join children from basic schools within the catchment communities of Sakumo Ramsar Site to plant trees and do birdwatching at the Site. The school children will train the farmers on site how to use binoculars and bird counting techniques. The whole exercise will be supervised by staff of the Wildlife Division and Friends of Ramsar Sites.

THE DALMATIAN PELICAN RETURNS TO THE NERETVA DELTA, CROATIA

At the mouth of the Neretva River, in Croatia, about two years ago, ornithologists spotted Dalmatian Pelican, which is considered an important event not only for the Neretva region, but also for entire Croatia, because this massive bird has almost become extinct in Croatia over last century, owing to very intense bird hunting and fishing as well as the extensive land reclamation. The State Institute for Nature Protection, said that in Croatia today five species of nesting birds have got extinct, and one of them is the Dalmatian pelican (Pelecanus crispus).

Svjetski dan ptica selica (World Migratory Bird Day)

Zoological garden of Zagreb celebrates World Migratory Bird Day since 8 years in a row. This year we dedicated this event to preservation of these distant travellers and the importance of networking and connecting countries worldwide. We organised bird watching trips, creative workshops, educational games and points where visitors could find lots of information about bird life, their migration and their vulnerability as well as need of better protection.
