This weekend, BirdLife Malta will welcome feathered and non-feathered visitors to the two Nature Reserves of Ghadira, near Mellieha, and Is-Simar, in Xemxija, as countries around the world celebrate International Migratory Bird Day on the 11th and 12th of May.

The Maltese Islands are an important stopover for birds migrating in the spring from Africa to Europe, where they breed in the summer months before returning to Africa in the autumn. This spring, 60 different bird-species (most of they migratory) have been recorded at Ghadira and Simar alone.

Comme chaque année l’Association « Les Amis des Oiseaux » (AAO) célèbre la Journée Mondiale des Oiseaux Migrateurs (2013) avec toute une panoplie d’activités qui se déroulent à El Haouaria (Cap Bon) et dans la Zone Importante pour la Conservation des Oiseaux (ZICO) du Djebel Sidi Abiod, qui est un des sites les plus importantes pour la migration des oiseaux en Tunisie.

Two days of birdwatching in the national nature reserve Lago di Burano, a natura 2000 site and Ramsar site. Visitors will have the opportunity to spend the day birdwatching from a unique observation point - the sixteenth century Buranaccio Tower.

BCN Pokhara Branch is organizing Bird Race on 11 May 2013 to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day 2013 at Banpale forest, Institute of Forestry Pokhara. This year’s World Migratory Bird Day theme – “Networking for migratory birds” – highlights the importance of networks of sites for migratory birds along their migration routes.

We would like to request all of you to actively participate in this great event and help us in raising awareness on conservation of migratory birds.

LEPA Iasi, in partnership with the Romanian Ornithological Society, Association "Valea Jijiei" and Vladeni High School, will realize an educational activity related to WMBD 2013 and special bird protection area "Elesteele Jijiei si Miletinului" - Natura 2000 site of the Vladeni area - followed by a birdwatching excursion in SPA "Elesteele Jijiei si Miletinului". Thematic flyer on topics will be distributed. Also, LEPA will send a press release about the event.

Artificial wetlands compromise new suitable habitats for birds. Migratory and soaring birds rest in these areas around Aswan while some of them spend the winter.
This year, we will celebrate World Migratory Bird Day with employees in the sewage treatment station east of Aswan. We will teach them about the importance of birds and the main threats for bird migration through Egypt.

Awareness workshop on Bird Migration and Migratory Birds, Bird identification and photography workshops on 11th at Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. Bird watching, Migratory Bird photo exhibition, Bird Quiz and Birds documentary on 12th at the same venue.
