Tree planting and bird watching at Sakumo Ramsar Site

For the first time, farmers, mostly peasants, will join children from basic schools within the catchment communities of Sakumo Ramsar Site to plant trees and do birdwatching at the Site. The school children will train the farmers on site how to use binoculars and bird counting techniques. The whole exercise will be supervised by staff of the Wildlife Division and Friends of Ramsar Sites.

THE DALMATIAN PELICAN RETURNS TO THE NERETVA DELTA, CROATIA

At the mouth of the Neretva River, in Croatia, about two years ago, ornithologists spotted Dalmatian Pelican, which is considered an important event not only for the Neretva region, but also for entire Croatia, because this massive bird has almost become extinct in Croatia over last century, owing to very intense bird hunting and fishing as well as the extensive land reclamation. The State Institute for Nature Protection, said that in Croatia today five species of nesting birds have got extinct, and one of them is the Dalmatian pelican (Pelecanus crispus).

Svjetski dan ptica selica (World Migratory Bird Day)

Zoological garden of Zagreb celebrates World Migratory Bird Day since 8 years in a row. This year we dedicated this event to preservation of these distant travellers and the importance of networking and connecting countries worldwide. We organised bird watching trips, creative workshops, educational games and points where visitors could find lots of information about bird life, their migration and their vulnerability as well as need of better protection.

Migratory Bird Day Program

We wanted to gather the local pleople, youth, children and government officials to celebrate this day by having small presentations, conducting a rally and cleaning activities.

WORLD MIGRATORY BIRD DAY

WE INVITE SCHOOLS IN ONE OF THE NATURE RESERVES AND WE IDENTIFY THE NUMBER OF SPECIES OF BIRDS, ESPECIALLY MIGRATORY ONES. THEN WE PROCEED TO LECTURE ON BIODIVERSITY AND THE ROLE OF BIRDS IN ECOLOGY. WE ALSO SHOW SOME DOCUMENTARIES ON BIRDS.

Bird Monitoring in Jasper National Park

Jasper Municipal Library will host Parks Canada Conservation Biologist Brenda Shepherd as she talks about the practice of bird monitoring in Jasper. Find out how biologists collect field data and why the park has chosen birds as an indicator of ecological health. Admission is free, donations for refreshments gladly accepted.

World Migratory Bird Day

This year, we will celebrate the WMBD in Sabkhat Julyanah which is one of most important wetlands in Libya. We chose this wetland because it faces some problems, so the idea of this celebration is to show its importance and also to increase the awareness of the local communities. The targeted groups will be the boys scouts, local governess and students from schools and university in addition to the local communities.
